Brownies

You can be a Brownie if you are aged between 7 and 10 years old

What Are Brownies?

Brownie Packs usually meet each week for an hour or two. You will be a member of a small group of other Brownies called a SIX, and there will be up to 3 other Sixes in your Pack.

Each Six has a Sixer and Seconder who are older and are able to help the younger Brownies. The members of your SIX will be your friends, and you will play games and do crafts together.

What Happens at Brownie Meetings?

Brownies are great fun, you will learn lots of new things every week and have fun at the same time.

Sometimes Brown Owl will ask other people to come to Brownie meetings and show you things or teach new skills. At other times you might go out on trips, like Swimming, Skating, to the Theatre or Pantomime, or even visit Guides at Camp!

What to Do?

During your first few Brownie meetings you will be getting ready to make your Promise. It is the really special bit about being a Brownie.

When you have made your Promise, you get your own Promise badge. It has three leaves on it, one for each part of your Promise, the star is for your Brownie Law and the yellow shows you are a Brownie!

Other members of the guiding family in the UK wear a badge like this but it is a different colour. Guiding members all over the world wear badges with three leaves as well.

Once you have made your Brownie Promise you can wear your Promise badge and you will be part of our great guiding family.

There's so much to do with your Brownie friends:

Wear your Brownie uniform

Be part of a special group called a Six.

Play games and do all sorts of exciting things outside.

Go on Pack Holiday or maybe even camp.

Hold a Pow-wow to decide what your Brownies will do.

Get badges for doing things you really enjoy.

Have a special book telling you what being a Brownie is all about.

Buy your own Brownie magazine!

Tip: Guiders, if you are looking for more things to do with your brownies, check out some info pages here with links to games, arts and crafts websites as well as links to information on camp and events.

Some of our Brownie packs in the Forth Valley also have their own websites. Click the units below to find out what they've been getting up to!
